ION FLUSH DETOX
The Technology
A low voltage charge flows through an electrode system (array) which is positioned in a foot bath. Electrolysis, boosted by the addition of salt to the water, splits the water molecules into positive and negative ions. The feet, commonly called the second kidney in Traditional Chinese Medicine, are in fact detox organs. They feature over 2,000 pores which serve as entry points for the negative and positive ions and exit points for the flood of toxins that are subsequently removed from the body.
The Detox Imperative
We live in a world with over 74,000 registered chemicals, many of which the human body struggles to manage. Heavy metals and pollution increase the load and noxious fumes from household building materials add further contamination. Almost every culture has an institutionalised detox protocol with the exception of ours, and yet we are in most need of a cleansing strategy. The ion flush offers a pain free approach to detox without the sacrifice, willpower and discomfort linked to other approaches.

REFLEXOLOGY
The History of Reflexology
Reflexology is an ancient healing art going back thousands of years. There is evidence to show that therapeutic foot massage has been practiced by a variety of cultures.
The Chinese and Indians used it in conjunction with acupuncture some 5,000 years ago and there is evidence that the Egyptians also used it as early as 2330BC. In the early 1900s Dr William Fitzgerald, an American ear nose and throat surgeon, introduced this therapy to the west. Then in the 1930s Eunice Ingham further charted the feet in relation to the zones and their effects on the anatomy until she had evolved on the feet a map of the entire body - this is what is now known as Reflexology.
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a science based on the principal that there are reflexes on the feet hands and ears that correspond to every organ, structure and function of the human body. By applying pressure to these reflexes in a precise and systematic way it is possible to encourage a subtle healing effect within the body.
Reflexology is suitable for all ages from the very young to the elderly and may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. A session initiates a powerful relaxation response and is therefore remarkably effective for various stress related illnesses. It's effective pain relieving properties have also been well documented.
Who can Benefit?
The benefits of Reflexology are physical, mental and emotional.
As Reflexology treats the whole person, not just the symptoms of the disease, many different disorders can be helped.
These include:
- Stress related conditions
- Migraine
- Sinus problems
- Digestive disorders
- Muscular tension in the body (back & neck pains, headaches)
- Diabetes
- Improves and strengthens immune system
- Circulatory conditions
- Urinary problems
- Hormonal imbalance
- Infertility
- Pregnancy
Other Benefits:
- Induces profound relaxation (mental / emotional)
- Enhances effects of other therapies when used concurrently

MASSAGE
Remedial Massage
Remedial massage therapy effectively treats the most common soft tissue ailments from tension headaches to aching feet in our day to day life. In most cases the cause of these problems is simple. One or more muscles in the body are too tight, these muscles are pulling too much on certain bones which cause us to adapt our posture in search of relief, and in doing so put too much strain on other muscles as they try and compensate for the extra workload. A good way to think about this is - "bones go where muscles put them, and bones stay where muscles keep them". This tightness could have been caused by trauma, impact or extended states of contraction like sitting at a desk or performing a monotonous task. By observing, testing and feeling the muscles a therapist can determine which muscles are too tight and force them to release, effectively ‘re-setting’ their resting length and tension. Another issue with musculo-skeletal pain is that some people seem convinced that if something feels like it is out of alignment, it’s a skeletal (hard tissue i.e. bone) problem caused by bones. Just think about this - "if a tent is not standing straight, we don't adjust the tent pole, we adjust the ropes that are holding the tent pole in place". Misalignments have nothing to do with bones, they are soft-tissue problems.
While most people associate a massage as either a treat for themselves or for deep relaxation there is another more therapeutic benefit - long term pain relief. This benefit though comes at a price - discomfort. In order for a muscle to be made to relax it is usually kneaded, stretched, squeezed and put under direct pressure. This discomfort though is usually significantly outweighed by the level of relief that the patient will gain from the treatment. For those in the know, “short term pain, long term gain” is the usual mantra!
Here is a brief list of problems that remedial massage can effectively treat.
- Rounded shoulders
- Frozen shoulder
- Lower back problems
- Hip & knee pain
- Upper back pain
- Headaches
- Tennis and golfer's elbow
Unlike a harried GP who usually chooses to help you mask the pain with medication, a remedial therapist elects to get to the cause of the problem and remedy it. Treatments can be from as little as 20 minutes to an hour or more, although shorter more frequent treatments offer the best results for a specific complaint i.e. tennis elbow.
Sports Massage
Training for any athletic endeavour requires that for performance to increase, sufficient stress has to be put on the body to force an adaptive response. Adaptive responses include, but are not limited to, increased muscular contractile strength, improved recovery times from high intensity work, increased strength of connective tissues and an increase in ROM (Range of Motion).
In a perfect world the athlete has put just sufficient stress on the body part(s), is getting enough rest, nutrition and hydration to let the body get on with its job of increasing your performance. Alas, in the vast majority of cases one or more of the necessary ingredients is missing. This will lead to an unsatisfactory recovery of muscles and connective tissue, which, sooner or later will lead to an injury of some sort. This is because muscles and connective tissue that has not recovered are weaker than they were prior to training. Most people, especially serious amateurs, continue to push themselves each session and the fact is that they are trying to do more with less if they are not fully recovered. Pain, if not treated immediately (and I don’t mean with Panadol) will force movement compromises which will put other structures in the body under an unusual stress, which will inevitably lead to more injuries.
Sports massage can either prevent or assist in a faster recovery from injuries by promoting relaxation in tense muscles. This will allow for a better exchange of gasses, nutrients and the removal of metabolic waste products so that repair and super compensation (adaptation) can occur. The skilled hands of a sports massage therapist can detect the beginnings of un-natural stresses building in muscles and tendons, check joint ROM and warn against potential injury.

KINESIOLOGY
"Harmony Through Balance"
What is Kinesiology?
Kinesiology is a complementary therapy which works directly with the muscles and central nervous system. It is used to locate and defuse 'stress' and to establish more effective and functional energy pathways in the body.
What is Stress?
'Stress' can be structural, chemical, electrical (brain integration) or emotional in nature. When something is causing stress to the body the muscles will respond accordingly when monitored, showing weakness, strength or rigidity.
Traditional Chinese Medicine Principles state that 'stress' blocks the flow of energy or "Qi" (pronounced chi) in and around the body. This subsequently effects the proper functioning of organs, glands, muscles and systems of the body, in turn affecting our overall health and wellbeing.
'Stress' is often hidden under several layers and may be conscious or unconscious. It is not until we deal with the bottom causal layer, that dramatic changes are seen. Kiesiology enables us to deal with all these layers and to uncover the core 'stress' layer.
How does Kinesiology work?
Kinesiologists use the art of muscle monitoring as their main tool to access the layers of 'stress' and uncover the core of the problem. Using Traditional Chinese Principles (such as the 5-Element Theory) the 'stress' can be defused utilizing various methods including acupressure, massage, brain integration techniques, flower essences and counselling.
