Forteen years combining Acupuncture, Chinese Herbs, massage & nutritional guidelines guarantees you that I will provide high standards of ethical & professional conduct along with excellence in health care practice.

Introducing Your Health Care Practitioner
Helga Del Mundo

When considering a health care practitioner, it is essential that you choose carefully. Recognised qualifications & experience are crucial for the best results & your peace of mind.

My journey into natural healing began when I enrolled at the Academy of Natural Therapies, graduating in 1992 with a Bachelor of Applied Science TCM, Diploma of Acupuncture, Diploma of Chinese Herbs & a Diploma of Chinese Massage. As an accredited member of the Australian Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA) you can be assured that I will provide high standards of ethical & professional conduct along with excellence in health care practice.

Following graduation I worked at the Golden Door Health Retreat in Willowvale & the East West Clinic in Bundal whilst furthering my studies in massage therapies. By the end of 1993 I had added qualifications in Swedish Massage, Shiatsu & Deep Tissue therapies.

New Years Day in 1994 saw the opening of Bay Street Natural Therapies in the business centre of Southport, a multi modality clinic where I ventured into the exciting world of business ownership. Originally trading under my maiden name of Helga Donath, business was good, & for four years I helped many to enjoy better health, naturally.

The opportunity of establishing my own clinic in Banora Point became possible in 1998, & the close proximity between home & work made it an opportunity I couldn’t resist!

These days I trade under my married name of Helga Del Mundo & am kept busy with a varied & interesting clientele, many of whom have been with me for 10 years or more & have helped my business to grow to what it is today.

So, if you’re looking for a practitioner who has studied & achieved the best qualifications from the finest institution, who is a member of the leading association that represents Acupuncturists in Australia, who has experience in the field, & who cares & listens... you have found her.

Put yourself in expert hands. You deserve it.

Acupuncture

With an uninterrupted history of use & development in China & other parts of East Asia dating back over five thousand years, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has developed from the philosophy that restoring balance & normal functioning will both treat ailments & prevent other illnesses from developing. In Australia, the most popular forms of TCM health care are acupuncture & Chinese herbal medicine.

What can I expect?
The consultation preceding treatment is extensive, covering prior surgical & medical history, general health questions, examination of the tongue & an in depth pulse diagnosis. According to TCM theory, when healthy, an abundant supply of Qi (pronounced ‘chee’) flows unimpeded through the body’s meridians. When your Qi flow is balanced you feel confident & energetic as it affects you emotional, intellectual, spiritual & physical well being. If the flow of Qi becomes blocked or there is an inadequate supply of Qi, the body fails to maintain normal function, & disease or illness follows.

All the information gathered provides the practitioner with clues as to the underlying symptom pattern that indicates how the body is or has become dysfunctional. Most diseases or illnesses present with a core set of recognizable signs & symptoms, but the actual presentation of a particular disease or illness will vary from person to person. For this reason, people with similar health conditions may be provided with quite different TCM treatments.

Acupuncture needles are very fine & are inserted with great skill. The number used may vary, anywhere between six & twelve pins used in a session. Once the pins are in place I leave them for 15 to 20 mins to provide the necessary impact on the Qi. The treatment itself is quite relaxing, with many people making the most of the opportunity for a well earned nap!

How can Acupuncture help me?
Since its introduction to the West, Acupuncture has been used to treat or cure a wide range of ailments. In the late 1970’s, the World Health Organization recognized the ability of acupuncture & Oriental medicine to treat nearly four dozen common ailments, including musculoskeletal conditions such as arthritis, dizziness, & neck/shoulder pain; emotional & psychological disorders such as insomnia, depression & anxiety; circulatory disorders such as hypertension, angina pectoris, & anemia; addictions to alcohol, nicotine & other drugs; respiratory disorders such as emphysema, sinusitis, allergies & bronchitis; & gastrointestinal conditions such as food allergies, ulcers, chronic diarrhea, constipation, indigestion, intestinal weakness, anorexia & gastritis.

The beauty of this type of treatment is its ability to maintain our good health. When experiencing good health, a seasonal Acupuncture treatment will ensure our ability to ward off illness. Much like a regular mechanical service ensures our vehicles serve us well, regular health checks will keep us feeling terrific.

Are there any side effects?
There are always some risks with any sort of treatment. Slight bruising may occur, yet by far the greatest side effect of your treatment may be a heightened sense of relaxation, which includes such things as feeling comforted, peaceful, an inability to think sharply, an all over lightening, drowsiness… Avoid getting up quickly from the treatment table & give yourself time to adjust after your treatment.

How many treatments will I need?
Extremely painful & debilitating conditions, such as acute pain, require two treatments per week, & all other conditions require one session per week. The length of the course of treatment is dependant on many factors, yet 6 weeks provides most with success. In some cases it is necessary to return for a follow up treatment some weeks following the initial course of treatment, & a maintenance program thereafter will ensure lasting results.

Initial consultation & treatment : 1 – 1 ½ hr : $75.00
Following treatments : 45 mins - 1 hr : $55.00
Short treatments : 30 mins : $30.00
