Bowen Therapy ...What is it...? Bowen is a remedial body technique that is gentle and relaxing. It helps the body’s own healing resources to achieve balance and harmony, which can result in lasting relief from pain and discomfort. Benefits may be seen after the first session. Integrated body response Bowen therapy uses the bodys natural energy, which makes it safe to use on anyone from newborns to the elderly for any complaint from sports injuries to chronic or organic conditions. Bowen facilitates the balancing of a range of conditions. ( It is a holistic treatment which aims to treat the whole person.) A Bowen treatment consists of sequences of small moves, each at a specific site on the body. The treatment is a light cross-fibre manoeuvre of muscle, tendon or ligament with no forceful manipulation. You do not need to remove your clothes. (Light clothing eg: T-Shirt) During this time, wait periods of 2-5 minutes at a time to allow your muscles to make the changes necessary in your body before commencing the next sequence of moves. During the treatment, we will discuss the importance of water intake and will recommend any other environmental or lifestyle changes necessary to maintain your wellbeing. A Bowen Session
A Bowen session consists of several series of gentle moves through light-weight clothing (or on skin).
In your home, office or clinic, the client usually lies on a bodywork table, bed or, for comfort, in a chair.
However, Bowen can be done anywhere - sports field, in a hospital room, at the site of an accident,
on an airplane or train.
A session may last from fifteen minutes to an hour. Most often, a surprisingly few sessions
are needed to alleviate complaints, whether structural or functional, even if long-standing.
And the results hold for a long time, generally until there is a re-injury.

Drink more water
Consuming eight to ten glasses of water throughout the day, you could be on your way to a healthier body.
Your intake should be spread throughout the day and evening.
You may wonder: If I drink this much, won't I constantly be running to the bathroom?
Yes. But after a few weeks, your bladder tends to adjust.

Keep Moving
In the days immediately following a Bowen treatment, try not to sit still for more than 30 minutes at a time.
A little walk around the room to have a stretch is all that is required to keep things moving.

Reaction
Reaction to Bowen treatment may include hot and cold flushes, headaches, emotional release,
thirst, tiredness and body aches and pains. (Reactions may differ between people)
These are all positive signs that the healing process is working.
These responses usually clear after a few days.

Exercise
Continue with any comfortable and gentle exercise regime that you already have,
walk for 20 minutes per day, unless otherwise advised.

Medication
Do not alter any medication or diet that has been prescribed for you.

Heat / Cold packs
Do not use ice packs or heat packs during a course of Bowen treatment.

Other Therapies
During the course of treatment with the Bowen Technique, do not receive another physical therapy such as reflexology, physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractic, massage, acupuncture etc. for seven days before your Bowen Technique treatment, or within seven days of finishing Bowen Technique treatments. This is to ensure that the body is not overloaded with information or given differing therapeutic information to deal with at the same time.
